Welcome to Trailside Photography! Our images celebrate the geologically dynamic, biologically complex, and visually stunning world that we all—humans and nonhumans alike—inhabit. Most of our photographs are made along trails in public—or publicly accessible—nature preserves and parks. The images reflect what we observe, and as Henry David Thoreau noted in his journal, “There is no such thing as pure objective observation. Your observation, to be interesting, i.e. to be significant, must be subjective.” Similarly, in Walden he writes, “Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?” We offer the photographs in our portfolio in the hope that they will complement your own observations, and we welcome your comments. The privilege of walking land set aside for wildlife habitat and preservation of native ecosystems enjoins us to inhabit the Earth in a manner both sustainable and just. We encourage you to support environmental organizations dedicated to those ends. |
